Day 1 (Thurs., 5/7/98)

This is the obligatory "before" picture. The area to be modified used to be a one car garage. At some point in the past it was enclosed as living space. Not very well done, either.

Not a site one sees every day. Recognize the thing sticking out of the roof?

The basic plan is to cut the old part away from the main house all the way up and around, then knock it over with a backhoe. They started at the roof.

This is the view from the back. Here's Keith (the contractor). Above him, through the trees, you can see the gash they cut just ending at floor level on the second floor (loft).

We had to relocate the gas meter, and didn't get the new line certified in time, so I got to spend the weekend without any heat. Naturally the temperatures were 15 degreees below normal...

This is pretty much where things were left after the first day. Problems with the chainsaw slowed things down too much. They had planned on getting it down to the ground the next day, but it started raining so they concentrated on the inside.
