Day 14 (Wed., 5/20)
Well, I knew it was too good to be true. It started raining last
night, rained all night, and it's still raining this morning. The
digging is almost finished now. There's just a lot of dirt that has
to be hauled away still. The hauling fees are a killer. Because the
original tractor was working in the rain, it churned the debris into
the mud. When we tried to take it to the landfill we got charged about
$900 a truckload (about 14 yards) to dump it. The clean dirt was
dumped for free, but I got socked $2,800 to dump the mixed stuff!
So far the cost overruns are already around 10%, and we haven't
even poured the footings yet.
