They spent most of yesterday figuring out how to compensate for the fact that
the garage walls are supposed to be floating about 10" above the footings. It
seems someone forgot that there would be a floor system sitting on top of
the footings in the rest of the structure (10" floor joists plus subfloor).
It's Friday now, and the crane has to go back tonight. They've
finished erecting the walls, and it's evening now.
From this view of the rear you can see the ends of the roof trusses they've
already placed on top of the walls.
From the front you can see it's starting to look like a house.
In this sequence they're placing the last wall segment, the front
wall across the garage. If you look closely under the walls you can
see theor solution for the 10" of air...they had to add 6x10 boards
under the walls, and tie them in place with metal straps.
This is the last thing to go up before the crane can go back. It's
just sunset, in a few minutes it will start to get dark. Looks like
they're just going to make it. That one day crane rental got pretty
expensive - four days of crane rental, operator, and three framers.
Guess who's going to eat that cost. Guess again :-( The contractor
told me today he needed another $10,000 to finish the job. I offered
to give him enough money to cover checks he wrote, but we'd have to
talk about the money.
Before he went home the contractor said he'd be out first thing
in the morning and would work through the weekend.
